Few people know much more about our 30th President than that Calvin Coolidge was known as either ‘Cool Cal’ or ‘Silent Cal.’ But he was a strong Christian and a very capable president who foreshadowed the values of Ronald Reagan. He also served during what we call “The Roaring 20s” which was one of the most fascinating decades of our history.

Over five Sunday evenings we will read and discuss (aided by wine and treats) Coolidge’s autobiography (order the Original and Complete Edition from Amazon for about $8), consider his life and work, and look at events during the 20 year inter-war period (1919-1939). This will include  Lindbergh’s flight, the infamous ‘monkey trial’ over evolution, the market Crash, the Great Depression and the rise of dictators that led to the inevitable second World War.

Open to high school and older students of history (must be 21 to enjoy the wine). All the meetings will be hosted by Tom Garfield at their home (2036 Concord), from 7:00 - 8:30 pm, over five Sundays: Sept 22, 29, Oct 6, 13 and 20. Registration is $50 here.
